Was skeptical about those $40 foam pipe insulation kits...
I mean, I figured wrapping my exposed pipes in the crawlspace was just snake oil, but after that freeze two weeks ago off Gibson Boulevard, my neighbor's pipes burst and mine were fine. Has anyone else had a cheap fix like this actually save them money in the long run?

@brian_ramirez I know the feeling with that sealant sitting around. Funny how we put off the cheap little fixes that end up causing the big problems. That pipe wrap thing got me thinking about how we treat maintenance in general. You spend a few bucks on the small stuff and it feels like you're throwing money away, but then you get hit with a five hundred dollar plumbing bill and realize the wrap would have been a bargain. Happens with tires too, people run them down to the wire and pay more in the long run. Same goes for changing furnace filters every month instead of waiting until the unit chokes. It's like the little things add up but we never see them until they're gone.

Man, that reminds me I still gotta re-caulk my bathroom window from last winter. I bought that $5 tube of silicone sealant like six months ago and it's just sitting on my workbench. Anyway, glad your pipe wrap worked out I've been kicking myself for not doing it.
