Shoutout to the guy at the True Value on Montgomery who told me how to fix my swamp cooler for $11
Last Thursday my swamp cooler quit on me right in the middle of that hot stretch, and the house hit 88 degrees by 4pm. I figured I'd be dropping $400 on a new motor or paying some company to come out, because that's what happened to my neighbor Dave two summers ago. I pulled the pads off and the water line looked fine but the pump wasn't pushing anything, and I was about ready to give up when I ran to the True Value on Montgomery for a new pump. This older guy in the aisle asked what I was working on, and instead of selling me the pump he told me to check the little spider tube first and just try clearing it with a piece of wire. Took me ten minutes, cost me $11 for a spare tube and some new pad clips, and that thing has been blowing cold air on low ever since. I felt like an idiot for not knowing that, but also like I just won the lottery. Has anyone else had an old timer at a hardware store hand them the actual cheap fix instead of the upsell?
