Before and after at Forest Mall in Fond du Lac hit me hard
Went back to Forest Mall in Fond du Lac after 5 years away. Last time I was there, the old Sears was still boarded up but the rest had some life, still had a pet store and a few shops open. Now the whole place is gutted, carpet ripped up, and you can see straight through to the food court where rats are just running around by the old Orange Julius counter. How long did it take for your local mall to go from half alive to completely dead?

Read an article saying half of US malls will close by 2027. Guess Fond du Lac's beating them to it.

Disagree honestly, my local mall's busier than ever with that new food hall they put in.

People say "half of malls will close" like it's the end of the world, but I dunno. Malls have been dying for YEARS now, it's not exactly breaking news. The ones that adapt or have solid anchors like a movie theater or a good food court still do fine around here. Honestly feels like the those 2027 predictions are just the media trying to get clicks by saying the sky is falling. Some mall near me has a gym in an old JCPenney and it's packed every day.
