I was hiking near Gatlinburg last weekend and saw tons of people grabbing greenbriar shoots, but also a few folks warning that the young leaves can cause mouth irritation if you don't prep them right. I've only tried the tips once, boiled them for 10 minutes, and they were fine, but the raw ones tasted kinda sharp to me. Some say the berries are underrated, others swear they're not worth the risk of a bad stomach. Anyone here have a rule for when they'll eat greenbriar vs when they just take photos and move on?
