Why people think they can fix my mental health with clichés

Your well-meaning tips often ignore what I actually need.

God, yes. This is exactly it. Last week someone told me to "just breathe" during a panic attack like I hadn't tried that already. Or the classic "happiness is a choice" line that completely ignores chemical imbalances. It's so frustrating when people reduce complex issues to bumper sticker wisdom. Those comments don't help, they just make me feel patronized.

Ever notice how that kind of advice often comes from people who've never experienced it? It's like they're reading from a script without understanding the reality of panic or depression. Solidarity, man, it's exhausting to constantly have to educate while you're struggling.

What's worse is when that simplistic advice makes people delay seeking actual therapy because they think they should be able to fix it themselves. It perpetuates a stigma that mental health struggles are just a lack of willpower.
