My home office redo hit a snag with traditional joinery

I'm trying to build a desk with dovetail joints, but I keep messing up the cuts. This old woodworking skill is tougher than it looks. Does anyone have advice on getting the angles right? I want to avoid modern fasteners and keep it authentic. How do you practice without wasting too much wood?

Dovetail joints for a desk? That's wild, man. Most people start with boxes.

Actually saw a guy at a woodworking show try dovetails on his first real project, a small cabinet. Skyler696 isn't wrong about boxes being the normal start. That dude's joints were so gappy he had to fill them with epoxy and sawdust. Sometimes you gotta learn the hard way.

But jumping right in is how some people learn best!
