My grandad told me to use vinegar on every plumbing issue. Took 3 clogged drains to learn that's bad advice.

Man, that's rough. I had a buddy who tried the vinegar trick on his garbage disposal because his grandma swore by it. He poured a whole bottle down there with some baking soda and it fizzed up like a science fair volcano. But then the thing started making this grinding noise and water backed up into the sink. Turns out vinegar ate away at some rubber gasket in there. Cost him like 200 bucks for a plumber to fix it. Yeah, vinegar is good for cleaning coffee makers, not pipes.

Wait, vinegar ate away at the rubber gasket? That's wild. I always thought vinegar was this gentle, natural cleaner that couldn't hurt anything. Now I'm second-guessing every time I've dumped it down the drain for a smell. Did the plumber say what kind of gasket it was, or is that a standard thing in most disposals?
