Warning: I painted my whole living room ceiling without primer
Honestly, I thought I was saving time by skipping the primer on my ceiling paint job in Des Moines last spring. After about 6 months, the paint started peeling in big ugly strips right above the window where moisture hits it. Took me a whole weekend to scrape and redo it. Anyone else learn this lesson the hard way with paint jobs?

Who needs primer when you can just paint it twice, right?

Used to be a two-coat guy all the way. Then tried primer on a dark wall and one coat covered it perfect. Primer saves paint and your time.

My buddy Mark tried to skip primer on his dark red living room wall because he thought it was just a gimmick. Went through a whole gallon of light beige paint and could still see red patches bleeding through. Ended up having to buy primer anyway, plus another gallon of paint to finish the job. He told me it would have been cheaper and faster to just use primer from the start like I told him to. Now he's on the primer train and won't shut up about it, haha.

Wait, why do people think primer is a gimmick? I had this bright yellow kitchen that was driving me crazy... three coats of white paint later and it still looked like someone forgot to finish the job. Finally grabbed some good primer and one coat after that did the trick. It's not just about saving paint either, it's about sanity. Nobody wants to spend a whole weekend watching paint dry and still not be done.
