Just found out my grandpa's trick for marking studs actually works
Was hanging a heavy shelf in my living room and kept missing the studs with my finder. Remembered my grandpa saying to use a strong magnet to find the drywall screws. Taped a small magnet to a string and swung it along the wall. Found every single screw line in about 5 minutes. Anyone got other old school tricks that still hold up?
