Spent $80 on a fancy ice maker that broke after 3 months

It stopped making ice completely and when I opened it up the pump was full of slime, has anyone else had a countertop ice maker fail that fast?

Man that REALLY sucks, I feel your pain. I had the same problem with a popular brand, the pump completely gunked up after just a couple months. What finally worked for me was running a mixture of white vinegar and warm water through it every two weeks, like a full cycle with nothing else in there. I also started using filtered water instead of tap, tap water has way more minerals that turn into that slime. Took me losing two machines before I figured that out, but now my current one has been going strong for over a year.

And it's right next to the stove" hit me hard because I never thought about that before. I used to blame the machine or the water quality, but now that you mention it, the heat from my oven probably made mine fail faster too. Moving it to a different spot is such a simple fix I feel dumb for not trying it sooner.

Oh man, that slime situation is nasty. But here's something nobody's bringing up - you gotta think about where that machine sits in your kitchen. If it's right next to your stove or dishwasher, the heat cycles from those appliances can actually make the bacteria grow faster inside your machine. Warmth plus moisture equals a perfect breeding ground. I had mine on the counter between the stove and sink and it kept failing until I moved it to a cooler spot on the other side of the kitchen. The vinegar cleaning is good advice but if your unit is sitting in a warm spot you're basically fighting a losing battle from the start.
