Had to pick between cheap foam tape and 3M for sealing my window AC unit this summer
I went with the 3M weatherstrip tape at $8 a roll instead of the dollar store stuff I usually grab. After a 95 degree day in Phoenix last July my old foam tape let all the cool air leak out. The 3M stuff has held tight through two months of heat without peeling off. Anybody else find the cheap stuff just isn't worth it for certain jobs?

Learned the hard way after my cheap tape melted into a sticky mess on the window.

Oh yeah, "melted into a sticky mess" is exactly what happened to my buddy when he taped flyers to his van window. He tried scraping it off with a razor and just made it worse, so he had to spend an afternoon with goo gone and a lot of cursing. I learned from his mistake and just stick to the blue stuff now.

Blue painter's tape is the way to go. The only time I mess with other tape is if I'm in a pinch and know I'll pull it off within a few hours. Otherwise, you're just asking for a goo gone afternoon.
