Watched my neighbor's new patio flood for the third time this spring
They put it in flat against the house with no slope for water to run off. It's a basic thing, but I see it all the time in our area where the clay soil holds water. You need at least a quarter inch of slope for every foot away from the foundation. Has anyone else had to fix a patio that was installed wrong the first time?

Honestly wonder if it's even worth fixing. That quarter inch rule sounds good on paper but water finds its way regardless. My old patio had zero slope and yeah it puddled but never hurt anything. Sometimes people just overthink these things.

Isn't that just how life works though?

Yeah people get way too caught up in perfect grading for a backyard patio.
