Shoutout to the old guy at the hardware store for saving my patio project
I was trying to level the ground for some pavers last week and my string line kept getting messed up. He saw me struggling and showed me how to use a simple water level made from a clear hose, which worked way better. Has anyone else found a simple tool or trick that saved a big job?

Ever tried a chalk line for straight cuts?

I've got to ask about that chalk line suggestion, because I tried one for a straight cut once and it was a disaster. The chalk dust got everywhere and when I snapped the line against the wood, it was so faint I couldn't even follow it. Did you have to wet the line first or use a special chalk color? I've heard people swear by them but my experience was nothing but frustration. Just wondering if I missed something obvious or if the trick is more about technique than the tool itself.
