The $40 Dinner That Became a $200 Lesson on Split Checks

I took a date to this tapas place downtown and she ordered half the menu then casually said "we can just split it" when the bill came. It took me 3 weeks to realize I should have set expectations before we even sat down, not after watching her eat $160 worth of figs and chorizo. Has anyone else had a check situation spiral because you didn't say something upfront?

Learned this one the hard way too. Now I just say "I got the apps and first round, you good with covering the rest?" before we even order. That way nobody's surprised and you can actually relax and enjoy the food instead of watching the bill climb. It's not about being cheap, it's about both people knowing the deal upfront so there's no weirdness later.

Did you actually count the figs as they hit the table?

Wait, did you actually have a good time though? If the date was fun and you liked her, isn't it kind of worth it to just pay for a nice meal and move on?
