That time a fancy dinner date turned into a cheap taco truck adventure

I went on a date back in 2018 with a guy who insisted on taking me to a super expensive steakhouse downtown, but he forgot his wallet. We ended up eating 2-for-1 tacos from a truck by the gas station, and he tried to pay with a card that got declined. Has anyone else had a date fall apart because of money problems? Did you laugh it off or just leave?

I read somewhere that like 60% of people have had some kind of awkward money moment on a first date, and honestly that tracks. My buddy told me about a time he took a girl to this nice Italian place and his card got flagged for fraud, so they ended up splitting a gas station pizza. The thing is, if you can laugh it off together it's almost a better story than a perfect expensive meal. That taco truck story is a keeper in my book, way more memorable than some dry aged steak.

People act like a declined card is some kind of character test. It's just money. We've all been there, it happens. You either laugh and figure it out or you get all weird about it and ruin the night. The taco truck thing sounds way better than some stuffy steakhouse anyway, probably cheaper and the food is usually better. If someone can't handle a little hiccup like that without getting embarrassed or annoyed, they're probably not gonna be fun to date long term. It's not that deep.
