I switched from a free VPN to a paid one and the difference is huge

I used a free VPN for about 6 months thinking it was fine. Last month, I got a weird email from an old account I only used with that VPN on. I compared the privacy policies and the free one actually sells your connection data, while the paid one I got, Mullvad, does not. It costs 5 euros a month and they don't even ask for your email. I feel way less exposed now. Has anyone else found a good paid service that doesn't track you?

Yeah, Mullvad's a solid pick. I switched after Proton's free tier got too slow. Their paid version is clean, no logs, and the speeds are actually usable for streaming. That five euro price is hard to beat for real privacy.

Honestly wonder if most people even need that level of privacy. I mean, I used a free one for years and never got a weird email. Maybe you just got unlucky. I get what @bennett.patricia is saying about speed for streaming, but for just checking social media or the news, does it really matter if some company sells my data about that? Feels like we're all being sold anyway, paid vpn or not.

Totally agree about the paid switch. Had the same sketchy data sale experience with a free one years back. The peace of mind is worth the few bucks a month.
