Told a joke about my chainsaw at a dinner party - got a lecture on safety instead
I was at my sister's place near St. Louis last Friday and made a joke about how I "fired up my Stihl 661 and let it rip" when trimming branches. One guy at the table went off about PPE and kickback zones for ten minutes straight. It killed the whole room and now I second-guess every work-related joke I tell. Anyone else get a joke hijacked by someone taking it way too literal?

Nah, @jordan_anderson90's BBQ story is kinda funny though.

...and I once made a joke about my table saw being "hungry for fingers" at a BBQ and this guy next to me literally put his hand in his pocket and backed away slowly. Like, it’s not a Saw movie, man. The whole night he kept giving me side-eye every time I picked up a knife.

Oh, @jordan_anderson90, I once told someone my hedge clippers were "opinionated" and they wouldn't let me near their bushes.
