Vent: Changed my tune about scripted phone greetings after today's call

I used to think those long scripted greetings were just corporate nonsense. Worked a call at Best Buy in Tampa where a guy spent 4 minutes demanding to know why I didn't say 'thank you for choosing' his exact store location. He kept cutting me off every time I tried to help. From now on, I'm reading the whole script word for word. Has anyone else had a customer flip out over missing a single line of that opening spiel?

Best Buy in Miami. Lady lost her mind because I didn't say "we appreciate your business" first. She said it was "disrespectful" and demanded my manager. Now I just rattle off the whole thing like a robot. Saves me the headache. People are weird about those tiny details.

Had a buddy who worked at a Verizon store in Orlando. Guy came in furious because the phone greeting didn't include the phrase "your neighborhood wireless experts." My friend tried to explain it was just a script from corporate, but the customer literally pulled out his phone and played a recording of the greeting from a different store to prove his point. Took 15 minutes of backpedaling and a $10 gift card to calm him down. After that, my buddy said the full script every single time, even if it sounded silly. Some people really do clock that stuff.
