Used to track chores on a whiteboard, app made it worse

Back in 2018 my roommate and I split a 24-pack of dry erase markers and kept a chart on the fridge, worked fine until he moved out. Now I tried a shared app with the new guy and he ignores the notifications, so I'm back to paper but he never writes anything down. Anyone else find that low-tech beats high-tech with certain roommates?
