Lost $220 on a "quiet" roommate who turned out to be a drummer
Moved into a 3 bedroom in Austin last spring and paid a $220 pet deposit upfront because the guy swore his cat was the only animal in the house. Two weeks in, he drags in a full drum kit and starts practicing at 11pm on weeknights. Has anyone actually gotten a deposit back in a case like this, or am I just eating the loss?
Paid a pet deposit for a cat and got a one man band instead, that is a new level of bait and switch. The guy probably knew the landlord would say no to drums so he just snuck them in after you signed. Getting that $220 back is gonna be rough though, cause deposits are usually about pets and damage, not noise. You could try small claims if the lease actually says no other animals or something about quiet hours, but honestly most people just eat the loss and move out. Next time get the lease in writing with a noise clause and maybe a camera on the door. Sorry dude, that sucks.
