Hit 47 days without a single dish left in the sink, then he ruined it

I kept a tally on my phone of how long my roommate went without leaving a dirty plate or cup in the sink. Made it to 47 days, which felt like a miracle. Then I came home last night and there were three pots, two pans, and a strainer all crusted over with what looked like chili. He didn't even rinse them, just stacked them in there like some kind of art project. I texted him a photo with the date and he replied 'lol my bad.' Has anyone else kept a weird streak tracker just to prove a point?

You know, I used to think the streak thing was just harmless fun, but reading how it turns into a chore really makes me reconsider. It does feel like we're all just keeping score for the sake of keeping score sometimes.

Makes you wonder if streaks are just us testing how long people can pretend to care.

Read this piece the other day about how social media companies actually bank on that feeling of obligation to keep streaks going, @grant.nina. It's not really about caring, it's about gamifying interaction so we don't stop opening the app. Like, my cousin and I have a 500+ day streak but we literally just send "streaks" as our messages now, no actual conversation. It's basically become this weird digital chore we're both too invested to quit. Idk, makes me wonder if the whole thing is just designed to make us feel guilty enough to keep the numbers up.
