Swinging into a tailwind and the load started spinning, your call?
Had a rough one down in Port Newark last Tuesday. Picking up a 12 ton transformer and the tagline crew let it get away from me, the load spun about 30 degrees before I set it back down and called for a re-rig. My foreman said I should've just fought it with the boom, but I've seen a snag cable snap from that. You guys correct the drift with the swing brake or do you set it down and regroup, especially with wind gusts over 20 knots?
30 degrees on a 12 ton transformer with gusts over 20 isn't something you fight with the boom. That's how you shock load a cable or tip a machine. Setting it down and re-rigging is the right move, not the soft move. Your foreman might not have been standing where you were when that thing started walking. People who say "just fight it" usually haven't watched a snag cable part under load.
