Load chart said 4,200 lbs, the tag on the slab said 3,800. Guess which one was wrong
Last Tuesday on a job in Newark, we were picking precast slabs off a flatbed. The paperwork from the supplier listed each at 3,800 pounds, my load chart for the Terex at that radius said max was 4,200. So I'm feeling fine, right up until the slab clears the truck and the crane starts listing to the passenger side. I set it down fast. We weighed it on the site scale, came in at 4,340. That supplier never checked the mix density before stamping tags. I've been in this trade 12 years and I still trust the paper over my gut. Cost us half a day waiting for a bigger rig. Anyone else had a similar miss where the stamped number did not match reality? How do you verify before you lift beyond half your chart?
