Bought a cheap set of hot tools from a beauty supply and regretted it fast
Picked up a $30 flat iron from a random store on 42nd street last month thinking it was a steal. Thing started smoking after 2 uses and left my hair crispy. Anyone else fall for those cheap tools and waste their cash?

Relax it's just a little burnt hair, not the end of the world.

Hart.mark, that burnt hair smell reminds me of the time I melted a comb onto a space heater in college.

$30 for a hair tool is basically asking for trouble honestly. Those cheap ones don't have proper heat controls or materials that actually protect your hair. Spend a little bit more and get something ceramic or tourmaline from a real brand, you can find decent ones for like $60-80 that actually last. Your hair will thank you and you won't have to smell burning plastic every time you style it.
