Vent: My sourdough starter got a name before I did
I spent 3 months babying this blob of flour and water, feeding it at 8 PM sharp like it was a pet. Named it Gertrude, kept a feeding log in a notebook, even whispered to it when I was tired. Then yesterday I baked a loaf that came out so dense it could double as a doorstop, and my roommate asked if Gertrude was okay. I sat there looking at this brick I made and realized I put more care into a jar of yeast than I ever put into my own breakfast routine. The before and after is wild, I used to just grab cereal and now I'm scheduling my whole evening around a feeding window. Has anyone else built up a whole ritual around a bread thing and then wondered if you're just doing it for the routine, not the result?
