My crew spent 3 days staking a foundation by hand because the GPS unit died, and I'd do it again
Three weeks ago on a job in Bakersfield, our rover lost its fix at 7am on day one and the base station never came back online. The foreman from the neighboring lot said just use the total station, but our battery kits were still in the yard 40 miles away. So we pulled the old plum bobs and string line out of the trailer and laid out 110 feet of footing the way it was done before any of us were born. The concrete came out square within an eighth of an inch, which is better than our last three GPS jobs. Anyone else keep a full manual layout kit in the truck even though the tech never fails?
