Swore off wet pads on stamped overlays after a job in Boise went sideways
Last month I was doing a 400 square foot stamped overlay for a guy in Boise, and I figured I'd finish it with a wet pad like I always do to get that smooth look. Halfway through, the pad started grabbing the release and pulling the color right off the high spots. I panicked and hit it with more water, which just made a muddy mess. The homeowner came out and said, "It looks like a dog walked through it." I ended up renting a floor buffer at 6pm on a Friday and spent 4 hours trying to even it out. What convinced me to change my mind was a finisher named Ray I met at a supply house in Nampa. He told me he quit wet pads years ago and just uses a dry soft brush and a light mist from a pump sprayer. I tried it on the next job and the color stayed put. Now I'm wondering if anyone else has a trick for keeping stamped overlays from getting blotchy when you finish them?
