Unpopular opinion: I hit 40 dead drives in a single bucket and started rethinking my whole intake process
I keep a 5 gallon bucket under my bench for drives customers leave behind, and I finally counted it on a slow Tuesday at the shop. Forty drives. Nine of them actually spun up fine and had recoverable data on them. That means I was one lazy sweep away from wiping nine customers' stuff, and two of those people had already called asking if I still had their old drive. I started tagging every drive with the ticket number and a date before it touches the bucket, but I know plenty of techs who just toss them in a drawer. How do you all track drives that come in for imaging versus ones the customer abandons?
