That time a client's comment made me ditch my whole USB setup
I had this older guy bring in a custom PC last month, and he just looked at my USB drive I was about to use for diagnostics and goes "you still trust those things?" lol. Made me think about all the times I've gotten sketchy errors or slow speeds from random USB sticks I picked up at Micro Center. So I switched to using a small external SSD for my bootable tools and client data transfers. The read/write speeds are like 10x faster, and I haven't had a single corrupted file issue since. Anyone else make the jump from USB drives to an SSD for field work?

Lost three years of wedding photos to a dying USB once.

the 3-2-1 backup rule is annoying but honestly it works. external SSD + cloud + one more drive at a friends house if you're paranoid. i keep my photo library on a NAS with automatic sync to backblaze and still manually copy important stuff to a portable HDD every few months. feels like overkill til you hear stories like this then suddenly its not enough.
