Old timer at the shop told me my cable management was a mess
Guy must have been doing this since the AT days, pointed at a tangle under my desk and said 'that's a fire waiting to happen.' Started using velcro straps instead of zip ties after that, now I can actually swap drives without cutting stuff open. Anyone else get handed a hard truth by a veteran that stuck with you?

My first week on a job I used about 50 zip ties on a single cable run cause I thought it looked clean. Older guy just shook his head and handed me a roll of velcro, saying 'you're gonna hate yourself later.' @norathomas, that 5-in-1 story hits home, sometimes the simplest swap saves your back and your sanity.

Old foreman I worked with years back saw me using a screwdriver to pry open a paint can. He just walked over, handed me a proper 5-in-1 tool, and said "you'll ruin that screwdriver and your hand one day." He wasn't wrong, ended up getting a much better grip and way less mess. Ever have someone fix a bad habit with a simple tool swap like that?
