Finally stopped using thermal paste spreaders after a bad repair in Austin.

Saw a CPU overheat because a guy used a spreader and left air pockets, killed the chip in 3 months. Now I just let the cooler pressure do the job, has anyone else seen this cause failures?

Funny enough I used to be a total spreader evangelist until I killed my own Ryzen chip doing exactly that. Laughed at my friend for using the pea method, then my temps started climbing and bam, dead CPU three months later. Now I just do a tiny blob in the middle and trust the cooler to smoosh it out like God intended. Pretty embarassing when you're the one who built the system and your thermal paste game is what takes it down.

@uma685 That really stings when your own build comes back to bite you like that. It's funny how overcomplicating simple stuff can backfire hard. Reminds me of how people try too hard with everything these days, like overthinking recipes or putting way too much effort into packing a suitcase. Sometimes the easiest way really is the best way, just like the pea method working fine for years. Your chip didn't have to die for us to learn that lesson, but I guess that's how life teaches some folks.
