Client's Dell sat in my shop 3 days before I popped the back and saw the real problem
Last Tuesday a client brought in a Dell Latitude that wouldn't boot, and I spent two days swapping RAM and reseating cables before I finally cracked the case open. Turned out a single cap near the power rail had bulged and leaked, which I could've spotted in 10 minutes with a flashlight if I'd just looked first instead of trusting the error code. Now I'm torn on whether to keep chasing symptoms with software or always tear down to the board first, even on a simple no-post. What's your guys' call, do you trust the diagnostics or do you go straight to eyeballing the hardware?
