Worst dive day of my career was off a shrimp boat in Louisiana
I mean, this was maybe 4 years back near Venice, LA. We had a 10 knot current pushing us sideways, vis dropped to about a foot, and my air hose snagged on some old crab trap line that I couldn't see. Spent 45 minutes cutting myself free in the dark, then surfaced to find the boat captain had drifted 300 yards off my shot line. Not blaming him, the current was brutal, but I had to swim against it in full gear for what felt like forever. That day made me start carrying a second knife on my chest strap, which has paid off twice since. Has anyone else had a snag that turned into a multi-hour ordeal? What's your backup plan when visibility is basically zero?
