My comms went dead at 80 feet on a bridge inspection near Tampa

Last Tuesday, I was on a pier cap survey and my through-water comms just cut out. No warning, just static. I had to switch to line pulls with my tender to finish the job. It was a Simrad unit, about 4 years old. Has anyone had a through-water system fail like that, and what did you replace it with?

Totally agree with checking the power. My old unit did the same thing and it was just a loose wire in the battery box.

Maybe it's just me but I'd check the battery connections first. Those through-water units are pretty solid, so a total failure seems like a power issue. I've had similar static from a corroded terminal that looked fine.

Yeah, those units can short internally too.
