PSA: tracking down a 1992 reprint took me 6 weeks
I was hunting a specific Sandman issue, the 1992 reprint with the foil cover. My local shops in Akron all shrugged. Online listings kept showing the wrong printing. Took me 6 weeks before a guy at a flea market had it in a longbox. He wanted $12, which felt fair. Anyone else burn a month chasing a specific variant or printing?

and honestly, six weeks feels like a win compared to some hunts I have been on. I spent nearly two months chasing a 1989 Batman variant that kept showing up in eBay listings as the wrong year. The worst part is you can't trust the photos half the time because sellers blur the number on the spine. I finally found mine at a half price books in a box they had not even sorted yet. It was dinged on the corner but I did not care at that point. You just get so tired of the wild goose chase that you take what you can get.

Man, that hit close to home. You're spot on about the blurry spine photos, drives me nuts every single time. I've taken dinged up copies too, just to end the hunt. There's something about finally holding it that makes the wait feel worth it, even with a bent corner. Glad you got yours, even if it fought you the whole way.
