LCS owner told me to read Flashpoint, I finally get it

This older guy at Graham Cracker Comics in Naperville kept pushing Flashpoint on me every time I grabbed a Batman issue. He said it would 'break my new reader brain' and he wasn't wrong. The alternate timeline stuff with Thomas Wayne as Batman hit way harder than I expected, especially the letter at the end. Anyone else get steered toward a classic run that actually lived up to the hype?

Did that letter at the end actually hit you, or were you more into the whole alternate Batman thing? Just wondering which part stuck with you after you closed the book.
