Showerthought: the local coffee shop loyalty punch card might be costing me more than I think

It hit me last Tuesday while I was standing in line at Brew & Bean on 5th Street. I've been religiously filling out those little punch cards for like 3 years now, thinking I was getting a deal. One free drink after buying ten, right? But then I did the math in my head. I go there 4 times a week minimum, and each pour-over is around $5.50. That's over $1,100 a year just on that one shop, and I'm getting maybe $50 back in free drinks. It feels like a rewards system, but really it's just a loyalty trap that keeps me from trying other places. Has anyone else stepped back and realized their "coffee routine" is way more expensive than they thought?

Wait, don't you get 10 percent off everyday with those punch cards too? I thought the deal was a free drink plus a discount on every single visit.

Oh honey, I think you might be mixing up two different promotions there. From what I've seen at my local shop, @betty_palmer, the punch card is just for a free drink after you buy a certain number, no extra discount on top of it.
