My buddy's "don't rinse the filter" advice backfired hard

He swore rinsing paper filters ruins the flavor. Tried it his way for a week - my V60 tasted like wet cardboard every single time.

Hold on though, maybe your buddy has a point if you think about it differently. Idk, people always say rinse to get that paper taste out, but I've noticed that a dry filter actually slows down the drawdown in a V60. That gives you way more contact time for extracting flavor from the grounds. If you rinse it, the water just blasts right through too fast and you get weak, watery coffee. Maybe you just weren't grinding fine enough or your pour was too aggressive. I mean, wet cardboard sounds like a brewing problem, not a filter problem.
