Update: I ditched tutorials and learned more in 2 weeks by just breaking stuff
I spent about 3 months last fall bouncing between Python tutorial videos and never built anything on my own, so I finally gave up on them and just started making small broken programs on purpose. My first try was a little tip calculator, and it crashed 14 times in one night, but fixing those crashes taught me more than any video ever did. People kept telling me to finish a full course before touching real projects, and I think that advice is backwards for total beginners. You learn way faster when you're staring at your own error messages instead of copying someone else's code line by line. Has anyone else tried skipping the courses and just playing around with small scripts, or did that backfire on you?
