Spent 3 months trying to compost in my apartment in Chicago

I started a worm bin in my tiny studio. Took forever to figure out the right moisture level. Anyone else struggle with indoor composting setups?

Oh man, the moisture thing drove me crazy too... I ended up just adding more dry shredded paper whenever it got too wet and that finally balanced it out. Freezing the scraps first was a game changer for stopping the fruit flies, seriously cuts down on the smell too. Took a good couple of months before my little worms got into a rhythm but now it's pretty hands off.

Yeah I read somewhere that putting a layer of dry shredded paper on top of the bedding helps keep the flies from getting to the food scraps. I use about 2 inches of it and it seems to work pretty well (as long as I don't overfeed them). Also I started freezing my veggie scraps before adding them to the bin, which kills any eggs that might be hiding in there.
