Stop leaving the top plate gap on prefab inserts
Been to 3 houses this month where someone installed an insert and left a 2 inch gap at the top plate. That's how you get a house fire when the creosote builds up behind it.

Saw a guy stuff fiberglass insulation in that gap last week.

That sounds sketchy as hell. Fiberglass isn't meant to be jammed into tight spots near anything that can get hot. Plastic or glue melting off the paper backing would definitely set off the alarm.

Had a buddy do something similar last year. He stuffed it into a gap around his window and then a few weeks later his whole living room smelled like burnt plastic. Turns out the insulation was pressed right against a recessed light and started smoldering. He didn't notice until the smoke alarm went off at 2am. Wife was not happy lol.
