Remember when I used to hand-scribe soot marks for each flue inspection?
Switched to taking photos on my phone about 3 years ago after I mixed up two reports on a tricky double-flue job in an old Victorian and the homeowner caught the error, has anyone else found that digital records save more hassle than the old paper method?

Dropped my phone in a bucket of soot water last week and lost six months of inspection photos, so I guess we're both screwed no matter what we do.

Digital records are way easier to keep straight, no contest.

Huh, never thought about it that way. I've actually seen people lose years of family photos because a hard drive died or they forgot to back up a cloud account. Paper might get damaged in a flood or fire, but at least you can still pick up a soggy letter and try to save it. Digital stuff can vanish completely with one corrupt file.
