Rooms that were supposed to take 3 days took 8 because of one power stretcher mistake
Last month I got booked for a 4 bedroom house out in Aurora. Homeowner wanted the same berber replaced that she had for 12 years. I measured it at 142 yards and quoted her 3 days. First day goes fine, pad and tack strip down, seams laid out. Day 2 I start stretching and the power stretcher keeps slipping on the berber. Turns out the teeth on my stretcher head were worn down to nothing. I didn't have a spare and the local supply house in Naperville was closed for inventory. So I spent the next 5 hours doing it by hand with a knee kicker and a stair tool. My knees were done by day 3. I finished on day 8 after driving to a supplier 40 miles away to grab a new head. The homeowner was cool about it but I ate the extra days. Check your stretcher teeth every few jobs, that $30 head would have saved me about $900 in lost time. What do you guys use for berber that doesn't slip, anything better than a standard power stretcher head?
