I heard a guy at the lumber yard say he uses a dab of wood glue on his pencil marks before cutting.

That just seems like a messy fix for a simple problem. A sharp pencil or a marking knife gives a clean line without the gunk. Glue would gum up the saw blade and leave a residue you have to clean off later. It's solving a problem that doesn't really exist if you mark your wood properly in the first place.

Derekward is completely right here. The whole glue trick just adds MORE mess to a process that was already fine. Now you gotta scrape dried glue off your blade AND your workpiece before you can even make a cut. That's double the cleanup for ZERO benefit. A proper marking knife gives you a crisp line and a little groove for your saw to follow. No glue, no fuss, no gummed up tools. People love overcomplicating things when the old way still works better.

Reminds me of people adding extra steps to simple tasks. Always looking for a hack instead of just doing the thing right.
