My promotion has been 'just around the corner' for two years now

I started this job with the idea that a promotion would happen in a year. I've taken on extra work and hit all my deadlines, even the tough ones. For example, last quarter I managed a project that needed to be done in three weeks, and it was. But each time I bring up moving up, my boss says it's coming soon. This waiting game is starting to feel like a joke with no punchline. How do you handle this without getting frustrated? Is it time to push harder or just move on?

Consider this... two years waiting isn't really that long in most jobs. You still have a paycheck and you're doing good work, so it's not all bad. Maybe your boss is just stringing you along but that happens a lot... promotions aren't always promised. Sounds like you're blowing it up a bit in your head, might be time to just chill and see what happens.
