Rant: Lost a 6 year friend group over one dumb joke in a group chat

Back in March I made a joke in our group chat about my buddy's new truck and one person screenshotted it and sent it around without the rest of the thread. By the next week 4 people had blocked me and nobody would tell me what I actually did wrong. Has anyone gotten a real answer out of a friend group like this or do you just have to let it go?
