Paid $40 for a 'reputation repair' course, got ghosted instead

Last March I got caught up in one of those Twitter pile-ons over a dumb joke I posted, nothing illegal, but my name was trending locally for two days. I panicked and bought a $40 online course from some self-proclaimed crisis expert who promised to fix my digital footprint in a week. The whole thing was just a PDF of generic tips like 'apologize sincerely' and 'take a break from social media', stuff I could've found for free. When I asked for a refund, the seller deleted their account and the payment platform said I was out of luck. Has anyone else shelled out for cancel culture damage control and gotten absolutely nothing useful out of it? I'd rather hear what actually worked for someone than burn another $40.

Forty bucks for a PDF of advice my grandma could give, that's just the trust fund people have for anyone claiming to know internet damage.
