I used to defend every cancellation until my favorite podcast host got dragged for a joke from 2014
I read the full transcript and realized the joke was genuinely cruel, not just edgy, and I had been making excuses for it because I liked his voice. Has anyone else had that moment where you realized you were the one protecting bad behavior without even thinking?

Oh man, same. I was ride or die for this comedy podcast guy until he made a really gross joke about a trans actress from like 2012. I literally told myself it was "of its time" and "just dark humor" but then I actually watched the clip and yikes. It was just mean and punching down, not clever at all. Felt like a total idiot for defending it for so long.

Watching that 2012 clip made me realize I’d been making excuses for someone who was just being cruel.

Yeah, @the_piper hit it. I backed a comedian for weeks until I saw the actual clip and felt sick. It's easy to wave off words until you see the real damage.
