I used to cheer when brands got boycotted online, then I watched a small bakery in my town get wrecked over one tweet
Six weeks ago a bakery two blocks from me in Green Bay got dragged online for a joke sign in their window. Someone snapped a photo, it blew up, and by day three they had death threats and a 1 star flood. I was ready to pile on too until I walked past and saw the owner sitting on the curb crying while her two employees packed up boxes. The whole thing started because one customer at the counter didn't like the joke and fired off a post while she waited for her latte. Now I ask myself one question before sharing anything like that: do I actually know the full story, or just the screenshot?
