He wasn't even mad at his old company, just exhausted by how fast everything got dug up and judged. Has anyone else had a friend get hit by something from their distant past like that?

Man, that's so true. @rodriguez.diana is totally right, it's a real wake up call when it happens to someone close. My cousin had a grad school offer almost pulled last year because of some edgy forum posts he made when he was, like, sixteen. The whole thing just feels so unfair, like you're being held to a standard you didn't even know existed back then. It makes you want to just delete your whole online life.

Used to think people were overreacting about old posts, but seeing it happen to someone I know changed my mind. It's wild how a dumb joke from a decade ago can just pop up and wreck things now.
